It’s been coming for a few days now
The clouds have slowly been rolling in
I’ve heard the thunder rumbling in the distance
Growing closer and getting louder
I tried to ignore it,
So I denied the first drops of rain
I stayed in the garden
And when the sun disappeared behind the clouds
I tried to be my own
I sang a song of hope, and love and youth
But then the birds got silent
and my clothes got drenched
and the clouds got angry
As did I
I screamed at the sky
I hated it for what he had done
Yet mostly, at myself
For who I had become
I knew that it was coming,
I had seen the clouds roll in
Still I let it get to me,
and let the thunder win
